Additional Opportunities for Students
All-District Honors Orchestras
Most SoCal String Studio students participate in LBUSD’s Middle School and High School All-District Honors Orchestras every year.
SoCal String Studio has maintained a 100% acceptance rate to the LBUSD Honors Orchestras, with a high volume of students placing into the 1st violins, principal 2nd and concertmaster roles.
If you are not in LBUSD, your district may also have an honors orchestra, so be sure to ask your school music teacher!
CODA All-State/Honors, and SCSBOA All-Southern Honors Orchestras:
Auditioning for these orchestras is recommended only for advanced players as these programs are highly selective. Ask Mrs. McAllister if you are interested in working towards auditioning for these groups.
LBYO (Long Beach Youth Orchestra):
LBYO is free and open to any LBUSD student. Rehearsals take place on Saturday mornings at Hughes Middle School and performances take place several times throughout the year. This is a perfect opportunity for beginning and intermediate students in middle school and high school to gain additional orchestra experience.
Arrowbear Music Camp
Several SoCal String Studio students have attended Arrowbear Music Camp in the summers and have had a wonderful time. They have several sessions throughout the summer for orchestras of varying ages and levels.
