Recitals

SoCal String Studio students perform in formal recitals twice a year, in March and September, at Cal Heights United Methodist Church in Bixby Knolls. As part of this experience, the students rehearse and perform with a professional piano accompanist.

Through these recitals students learn how to collaborate with fellow musicians and how to handle performance anxiety in order to produce a polished and dynamic performance. In the months leading up to each recital, I guide each student through the process of setting a goal, creating a working timeline, and following through to a finished product. It is truly incredible to watch these young musicians grow in their confidence and musical ability year after year.

Studio Classes

SoCal String Studio violin students participate in studio classes each month. These group sessions are included free of charge to students who are on tuition. The activities are tailored to the current needs of the students but can include masterclasses, performances of solo works, sightreading duets and trios, playing music-related games, and group discussions on topics such as orchestral etiquette, performance anxiety, and effective practicing strategies.

These studio classes are sometimes used as audition prep or sectional work for local honors orchestras, including LBUSD’s All-District, All-State, and All-Southern Honors Orchestras.

Studio classes are at the heart of what we do at SoCal String Studio. It is in this space where students build friendships, foster community, and grow together as young musicians.
